Caitlin Clark Notches Triple-Double, First by WNBA Rookie

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark got the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA history during Saturday's game against the New York Liberty.

Clark pulled down her 10th rebound at the 7:07 mark of the fourth quarter, which added to her 15 points and 11 assists at that time. She finished with 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds as the Fever completed a fourth-quarter comeback to win 83-78.

This, by the way, was the first triple-double in Fever history.

Closing out the month of June, Clark was a massive favorite to win WNBA Rookie of the Year at -850 over Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky at +500.  Those odds were off the board as of Saturday.

Thief Steals Vermont Democratic Party Debit Card, Hits FanDuel Sports Betting Site

A Raw Story analysis of Federal Election Commission records showed the Vermont Democratic Party experienced a fraudulent charge of $925 on its political committee debit card — and the money went into an account on the sports and fantasy gambling site FanDuel.  It wasn't immediately clear as to whether the thief had any connections to the Vermont Democratic Party.

The political group recovered the money from the bank, Vermont Democratic Party Executive Director Jim Dandeneau told Raw Story in an interview.

Vikings Rookie CB Khyree Jackson Dies in Car Crash at 24

Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was killed in a car crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland overnight.  Details were limited as of late Saturday morning though his mother confirmed Jackson's death. He was 24.

Jackson was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of this year's draft and had been considered a contender to start at cornerback.

"We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson's death following an overnight car accident," the Vikings said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident."

Jackson played his final season with the Oregon Ducks, where he was an all-Pac-12 first team selection for Oregon in 2023.

"I am absolutely crushed by this news," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said in a statement. "Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches."

Phil Hellmuth Makes Not So Grand Entrance as Gay Kung Fu Fighter, Dan Bilzerian Ousted in Two Hands

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event is in progress, with Day 1C concluding with 1,907 players advancing to Day 2ABC. Notable players like Mike Brady and Gary Blackwood secured significant chip stacks. Phil Hellmuth made a dramatic entrance, adding excitement to the event.  He arrived as a Karate Kid meets Richard Simmons on downers type of character while attempting to dance to the Village People's "Kung Fu Fighting".  This is that rare time even the gays can get behind the concept of "pray the gay away".  We soooo miss the chariot. Day 2 of the Eureka Hamburg Main Event also commenced, featuring a competitive field with players vying for the €110k top prize.

From Poker News:

"The 'Poker Brat's' grand entrance took place after the second break, just before 5 p.m. PT. He wore a black karate gi and was flocked by a team of karate apprentices that included Scotty Nguyen, Joe Stapleton, Jeff Gross, American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth and upcoming Life Outside Poker guest Dan "Jungleman" Cates, who also made a memorable — and feral — entrance with Hellmuth last year."

Oh, and then there was the King of Instagram, Dan Bilzerian, who lasted a grand total of just two hands in this year's WSOP main event.

"While seeing Bilzerian on the felt is a rarity — his only live cash comes from a 180th-place finish in the 2009 Main Event — he is no stranger to the poker world. He claims to have won tens of millions playing in private poker games (claims supported by poker pros like Chance Kornuth) and recently booked a six-figure win on Hustler Casino Live.

"Bilzerian, who has called poker players "f***ing nerds," is widely considered a misogynist and tends to bring controversy where he goes. Bilzerian had a brief ambassador deal with GGPoker in 2020, but the partnership went the same way as his 2024 Main Event run."

Joe Biden Crisis

Sen. Mark Warner Works to Gather Senate Democrats to Ask Biden to Exit Race - Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) is attempting to assemble a group of Democratic senators to ask President Joe Biden to exit the presidential race.  Warner is telling Democratic senators that Biden can no longer remain in the election in the wake of his faltering debate performance, according to the people familiar with private conversations who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak freely.  And this comes in the wake of an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in which Biden was asked if he watched the debate afterwards and he responded "I don't think so".  Betting markets had a U.S. Senator calling on Biden to get out of the race at 80% as of Friday evening.

Biden is now around 6 points behind GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump but there was good news Friday evening as Biden odds moved in the right direction from +650 to +400 or 4-1 at BetOnline, leapfrogging over his Vice President Kamala Harris (now at +450 from +400).

Biden Commits to Staying in the Race But at What Cost? President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to run for re-election in 2024, despite growing concerns about his cognitive health and declining support within the Democratic Party. Discussions among party leaders and media outlets suggest that if Biden were to withdraw, Vice President Kamala Harris would likely become the nominee. However, Harris's potential candidacy is also met with skepticism due to her perceived challenges in winning a general election. The debate over Biden's fitness for office and the potential replacement options highlights a significant rift within the Democratic Party as it prepares for the upcoming election.

Betting Markets Have Beryl Hitting US as a Hurricane

Beryl has weakened quite a bit as it churns across the Yucatán Peninsula.  It was heading into the Gulf of Mexico Saturday as a tropical storm. As recently as July 4th, the betting markets had Beryl at just under 25% of hitting the U.S. at hurricane strength.  By Friday night those chances rose to 75%.  The latest track does take Beryl over or near Corpus Christi as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday.

The markets have Beryl at around a 50% chance of hitting the States as a tropical storm.

Yankees' Spiral Continues With Deflating Loss to Red Sox

We're not quite sure what's going on with the New York Yankees these days, a club that sat atop the MLB Power Rankings as recently as just a few weeks ago.  A major league-best 49-21 through June 12, New York is a big league-worst 5-15 since.

We recently asked the question: What's wrong with the Yankees?

The answer may have come from the New York Daily News.

From the New York Daily News:

Until then, the Yankees were unaware they had such a big problem with Trevino behind the plate — his 26% success rate throwing out baserunners, though hardly great, is about the same as it was last season. But as the Daily News’ Gary Phillips pointed out last Thursday, Baseball Savant stats tell a much more dire story about Trevino, as his 2.08 seconds pop time to second base ranks 65th out of 67 regular catchers in baseball and his 71.6 MPH arm strength ranks last.

Anthony Volpe stood in a quiet, mostly empty Yankees clubhouse and had a one-word description of the team's shockingly sorry skid and crazy loss in OT to a Red Sox team that was trailing prior to the 9th inning.

"Brutal," he said. "We play to win, and we expect to win."

The good news is you can get the Red Sox for some significant value these next few days.  They are a +164 dog in the Bronx on Saturday.

Josh Winckowski, starting for Boston Saturday, last blanked the Padres for five innings to pick a victory in his start Sunday. It’s his first win in nine starts dating back to Aug. 5, 2022.  It’s his first win in nine starts dating back to Aug. 5, 2022.

But Yankees ace Gerrit Cole does take to the mound on Saturday.  Cole scattered three hits and a walk across five innings on Sunday in an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed one run and struck out six.

The total comes in at 9 with six of the last ten games of this series resulting in nine or more runs scored.

Series Previews

Mets @ Pirates - The Mets are playing better than the Pirates of late and have had the upper hand in the series recently, posting a 6-1 record against Pittsburgh.  Each of the slated Mets starters have pitched well against the Pirates current roster. Luis Servino, scheduled to start on Friday, has conceded just two runs with a 3-0 record in 17 career innings against the Pirates.

Red Sox @ Yankees - The Yankees struggles of late are real.  They've only won two of their last ten games.  Boston has been playing quite well of late.  This series taking place in New York assures value for the Red Sox each game while the Yankees remain in a vulnerable spot.  Boston has won six of the last ten games in this series.

Giants @ Guardians - San Francisco has won five of the last six in this series dating back to 2022.  After a sluggish start, San Francisco seems to be making up for lost time of late while the Guardians are struggling just a bit.

Orioles @ Athletics - Baltimore is 7-3 in the series over the last ten games.  They've won six of their last eight.  Oakland has won three straight games but that was against the Angels.

Bitcoin Falls

Bitcoin's value dropped to a two-month low of $57,000.  ETF hype fading, German government asset liquidation, and other market factors likely spooking the sector.  The token stormed to an all-time high of above $70,000 in March this year after the approval of the first U.S. spot bitcoin ETF.  Minutes from the Federal Reserve’s June meeting showed officials are reluctant to lower interest rates until additional data shows inflation moving toward the central bank’s 2% target.

What price will $BTC dip below before August?  That's the question being posed at Polymarket heading into the weekend with 42% or +138 odds that Bitcoin's price drops below the $50,000 mark before August.  The price was somewhat stabilized heading into Saturday, sitting at between $56,000 and $57,000.

This market will immediately resolve to “Yes” if any Binance 1 minute candle for Bitcoin BTC-USDT between 2024/06/10 00:00 and 2024/07/31 23:59 in the ET timezone has a final “Low” price of 49,999.99 or less. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
